Matayos, Son of Adventure
Cap. 1
"Half-elf Matayos, the son of Logan Terrafall, a
mercenary, and the beautiful Glorinna, a princess-elf-of-heaven. To begin your
story we need to know what happened first ..."
We will go to Bielefeld a few years ago
when Logan Terrafall and his adopted brother Gugah Durk decided to become
mercenaries because of the condition of their adoptive mother, Gugah's mother.
The gentle lady, a woman who dedicated her life to raising her son and Logan,
was very sick and the medicines were not cheap, hiring a clergyman to cure her
illness was unthinkable due to the financial situation. Being a mercenary was
the only plausible solution at the time. It was on a day like any other that
they received a large mission and responsibility, a mission that would pay very
well, that could be the end of their problems.
This mission took them to Milothiann, a
journey that lasted 10 days of road inside a wagon, their destination was a
large castle and very well guarded. Already in the middle of the road, Logan
asks for information from a man, a flower seller, who finds himself in a small
tent on the sidewalk of one of the streets.
- Good morning, my lord, it is a
beautiful harvest you have there. - Logan waste your sympathy.
- Picked up this morning, by my wife,
my good man, perhaps you want to take it to your beloved. - The seller
then starts his business.
- I wish I had one, my friend. The
truth is I want information, not a rose. - Come on, Logan. - I
want to know the way to the castle, I have an audience to attend.
- Ah, well, follow this street for two
more blocks and then turn right, go one more block and then turn left, after
about thirty yards you'll see the castle on the right.
- Thank you my friend. Wants to know? I'll
buy you a rose to help you with your business. - Our hero says as he picks up a
rose. - When do I owe you for her?
- This one goes out on the house, it's
not always someone who treats you with education after all. - It offers
the merchant.
- I insist. Logan says giving him a gold
coin.
On the way to the castle, they are barred
by a guard informing them that no one is allowed to enter the castle like this.
- Self there, who are you? -
Says the Guard.
- Workers, my good man, just workers. - Says Logan.
- And what did you do here?
- Working, we have business to deal
with inside the castle.
- Then enter my friends. -
Doubtlessly says the guard. - By the way, I'm Fernando, needing something
you can call me.
- It's a pleasure, Fernando, I'm
Logan. - says our hero somewhat annoyed by such a lack of professionalism of
the guard.
Once inside the castle, they were attended
by a man named Lord Barton.
- Good morning, it must be the
mercenaries. - says the Lord
- We are ourselves. - Says Gugah
- We have some questions, such as: What is
the nature of the mission? Asks Logan.
- A ransom. Replied the Lord.
- What happened? - Investigations begin on
work.
The lord tells them that his mission would
be to find one of the future princesses of the kingdom, that she was to have
arrived by carriage, but the carriage arrived empty and with a guard given as
dead.
- In the castle we have three very
important princes: Braham, the eldest and future husband of the missing maiden.
Magnus, the middle brother, likes to travel with his princess. And lastly
Paolos, the youngest son, he hardly ever stops at home, because he is a born
hunter. - Says the Lord.
Entering a large castle hall, Logan and
Gugah spot a woman. She had long, black hair, green eyes like a jade, she was
extremely beautiful. It is to be expected that their attentions were taken by
such beauty, but it was not long before a man with brown hair and blue eyes
pulled by the arm with such aggression and violence, in Logan's head it was
already clear, he beat her . He pushes her out of sight of the boys, with a
mystery in his eyes she leaves the room, but without ceasing to observe them.
The lord tells him that this was Prince Magnus, the middle son and his
princess. Gugah handed Logan a look that Logan already knew, insinuating
suspicion.
Halfway through the castle, the lord leads
them to a part of the courtyard containing black roses, a beautiful sight.
Logan notices a tower, where in one of the windows is the black-haired girl who
is watching him. Logan leaves the lord and Gugah walks forward, puts the rose
on the ground as he looks at the beautiful lady, and goes on his way. Arriving
in front of the courtyard, they are introduced to Thomas, a gardener, the most
ignored person in the castle, who seems to be afraid of everything he is going
to talk about. In Logan's view the most ignored person is also the most
invisible and consequently the one who sees the most things happen. Logan
notices how much he looks at the lord before he says anything, he appears to be
afraid.
On the way back, Logan realizes that the rose was no
longer there, but in the place he finds a necklace, he immediately puts it in
his pocket without anyone noticing. The Lord decides to take them to Prince
Braham's office. On the way they find another part of the courtyard, but this
time with white roses, and in another tower Logan sees another girl, this time
a girl with a sad and tempting look, with white hair and pointed ears, bright
blue eyes, does not take too long until that the curtains on the window of the
girl who kept staring at Logan so deep in his eyes even when they were so far
away, are closed by someone. Arriving at Braham's office, the conversation is
not very pleasant, it is clear that there is no understanding between Logan,
Gugah and Braham.
- Pleasure, I'm Logan Terrafall, and
this is Gugah Durk. - presents our hero.
- Pleasure, I am Prince Braham of
Milothiann, what do I owe to meddling?
- We are investigating the
disappearance of his future wife, we have asked him some questions.
- What do you think I am? - have
already been hired for this, so why are not they doing your job instead of
hanging around asking questions. The prince aggressively retracts.
- I have questions, if not how do you
expect me to understand what happened here and before the princess
disappeared? - Logan says rhetorically.
- What has happened has already been
said to you, nothing of deferential will meet with your futile questions. - The prince remains irreducible.
- I still have to do them. - Logan
insists. - How did you meet the lady?
- I did not know her, I fell in love
with her for the letters and descriptions that were given to me.
- okay. -Logan lets go to generate more
discussions. - Did she have any reason not to come here?
- Of course not, who would not want to
marry a Prince, someone kidnapped her before you insinuate that she ran away. -
Braham responds
- I think you were right, I will not
find any other version but the story they told me.
- I told you, I do not have more time
to lose you, leave now. - Ends Prince Braham.
The boys are willing to help with the flea
behind their ears, however, Lord Barton gives them all the information they can
and gives them 30 days to bring the princess back and find out what happened.
Our heroes are escorted to the exit, where Gugah says he is hungry and that all
this talk of crazy princes wanted to drink.
- Let's find some place to eat and
sleep then. - Logan says.
- Now my brother speaks my tongue. - Gugah says with a smile on his face.
Logan decides to ask for information about
a tavern, ends up being lost and to the shame of his brother, climbs a house
and discovers the place, under the eyes of a small crowd forming to watch the
solution found by Logan. The Tavern was hidden in an alley so narrow that no
orc, bugbear, or any more "sharp" creature could pass. The place
looked nice and had many halflins, along with some humans, dwarfs and elves.
Logan walks up to the dwarf.
- Good afternoon, my good ... Dwarf ... I
and my brother need a room, and a good meal too.
- Yes, we have some rooms. I'm
Ighor, owner of the Tavern, what brings you and your brother here?
- Work, we'll stay for a few weeks.
- And may I know what work a mercenary
would have in our town?
- Is my profession so apparent?
- To someone who has seen much of this
world, it is.
- Forgive me then, if you prefer,
we'll look elsewhere.
- I have no problem with your work, my
friend. - Ighor answers. - As long as it does not cause problems. The Small
Porch Tavern is a safe place for people of breeds depreciated by size.
- All right, I understand the concern,
I'm Logan Terrafall, Norm's Mercenary, and my brother is Gugah Durk, the
Drunken Wanderer.
- Drunk?
- I'll have a bottle of mead. - Gugah says.
- Anyway, I'll enjoy the chat and ask you
some questions, for an investigation, okay? - Take Logan back.
- I'll try to answer the best I can.
- What can you tell me about the royal
family?
- Not much, little is known about them
other than their names, and very rarely have the Lady of the Day and Lady of
the Night been seen.
- Lady of the Day and Lady of the
Night?"
- The princesses! This is how the people
call them. But may I ask what kind of investigation you are doing?
- Let's just say the royal family
hired us to find someone.
- The Missing Princess? - Ighor hits it.
- Oh, that's right, I think I'm too
bad at keeping secrets.
- Actually everybody already knows, a
princess arrival is well received, strange everything that happened.
- That's why I came, but something
smells strange to me in princes, and I want to understand everything that has
happened.
- Aah, I understand, no wonder a
princess wants to run away or run away ..."
- Why do you say that, my friend? -
Question Logan.
- Ah, my boy, you can not imagine what
might be happening in that castle.
